UPS (uninterruptible power supply) gives battery backup with a short switchover. IPS (instant power supply) targets sub-cycle switching where even a flicker reboots sensitive gear. CCTV sites often need UPS on recorders and switches; ATMs and branch cabinets often need IPS-class behavior.
